Some scientists believe that vitamin K is also important in promoting bone health. Did they misspell calcium, perhaps? Vitamin K deficiency is actually pretty rare in adults.  The main causes for the deficiency seem to be primarily from self-induced diseases, such as alcoholism and bulimia. Long term use of aspirin may also cause a deficiency. Some of the primary symptoms of vitamin k deficiency are heavy menstrual bleeding, if the gums or nose bleed easily, anemia and bruising. A healthy diet and lifestyle should automatically maintain appropriate levels of vitamin K in your system. If you are concerned, a simple blood test from your doctor will reveal your vitamin and mineral levels. Though vitamin K is pretty low maintenance, it’s important not to undermine its importance to the body.
