Norwegian fish oil is universally popular and regarded as a high quality fish oil. Many fish oils available in the market are sourced from Norwegian fish only. Let’s find out how good this oil is actually and if it lives up to the expectations.

The cold waters of Norway are relatively untouched by industrial pollution. The water is quite clean, and the fish in it also have very less contaminants inside them. This is a very big point in favor of Norwegian fish oil, as in most other places the water is loaded with pollutants which make their way into the fish and the oil extracted from them too.

The downside here is, fish farming has become an industry there due to the popularity of its fish. These fish contain lower amounts of Omega 3 fats in them as they are raised on pellets as opposed to the wild fish which feed on plankton in the ocean. As you would be aware, Omega 3 fats are responsible for the health benefits associated with fish oil. So a good oil will actually contain high concentration of these fats inside.

Secondly, most of the Norwegian fish oil is derived from salmon. Although salmon does contain omega 3 fats, there are much better options out there. One such alternative is the Hoki fish from New Zealand.

The Hoki is found in the pristine cold waters of the southern coast of New Zealand. This area is also untouched by industries and is clear from pollution. The advantage over Norwegian fish oil is, the Hoki is naturally rich in DHA Omega 3 – the most effective Omega 3 fat.

Also, since the fish is not farmed and is caught from the wild, it naturally contains high omega 3 levels.

Some food for thought there. Why go for a less effective oil when a better choice is available?
