With so many brands on the market today, you might think to opt for a well known product like Dr sears Fish Oil, and while this is a good one, it is worth looking a little harder to find some truly excellent ones.

Recent research shows us that of the important omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA, DHA is by far the most important one, responsible for most of the health benefits.

Effective prevention of heart attacks and strokes, lowering of cholesterol and blood pressure and maintaining good brain health and correct functioning are just some of the many amazing health benefits to be had from the right supplement.

The main drawbacks I find with Dr Sears Fish Oil are the low levels of DHA omega-3 and the price. It has a DHA level of just 20% and a much higher level of EPA. If you compare this to the one I currently take which has 28% DHA you can see it is almost fifty per cent more.

On the issue of price, Sears currently goes for $25.50, and you need to take 4 capsules per day, while my one is $16.85 and only 2 soft gels per day. Personally I find it hard to remember to take 4 per day!

It seems to be the same for most supplements on the market that they have twice as much of the less useful EPA. To illustrate, if the body needs more EPA then it can easily convert DHA into it, but this does not work the other way around. The fact is EPA is cheaper to produce so the company can make more profit at the end of the day.

If you truly seek to get the most health benefits and protection from your daily supplement, there are better and cheaper alternatives to Dr Sears Fish Oil.
