What you should know on How to Keep Cholesterol Level Low

Cholesterol is not at all bad. In fact, these waxy, fatty substances are natural parts of our body’s cell walls and membranes. One important role of cholesterol is in the production of vitamin D, hormones and bile acids needed to digest fat and convert it to energy. What makes it bad is when cholesterol levels get to high. This excess is deposited in the arteries, clog up the arteries and lead to various heart diseases. To avoid such complications there is a need for you to check on your Cholesterol Level Count. And of course, it is a must to stay away from bad cholesterol and stick with good cholesterol instead. But, how is cholesterol levels checked? What is the so-called bad cholesterol and good cholesterol? Are there really natural ways to control the complications of too much bad cholesterol? Well, to answer those questions, let’s now start with our discussion.

First, let’s start with the basic. What are bad and good cholesterol? Cholesterol is not something that can’t be digested in the blood. It must be taken to and from the various cells of the body through lipoproteins. These carriers are made up of both protein and lipids. Bad cholesterol and carried by low density lipoproteins or LDL while good ones are carried by high density lipoproteins or HDL. Too much LDL means that they are circulating in excess all throughout the body. This means that their number is much more than what the body needs. In turn, excess lipids become trapped in the artery walls. Arteries are passageways for energy to be transferred to the heart and brain. With these passages blocked by bad cholesterol along with other bad cholesterol food, proper circulation will be blocked leading to various heart and brain diseases.

So now, how are we to check our cholesterol level to see if there is too much LDL? This test is done through a blood test. It measures total cholesterol comprising of LDL, HDL, Triglycerides and Lp(a) cholesterol. Triglycerides are natural fat in the body. Moreover this can also be converted to LDL due to excess smoking and drinking, physical inactivity and excess intake of carbohydrates. Lp(a) cholesterol is another type of LDL usually deposited in the arteries. For proper and specific interpretation of the test result, let your doctor do the explanation.

And finally, are there natural ways to control high cholesterol levels especially of bad cholesterol? Good thing, yes there is. High Cholesterol level means more harm than good as it could pose the risk of heart diseases. Doctors would always recommend drug treatments but that can also cause risk complications. Several cholesterol lowering drugs are said to cause negative effects on patients taking it. Nevertheless, lifestyle change is the better option. And that includes natural ways to lower our cholesterol. Among these ways are exercise, low-cholesterol diet and weight loss and supplement with cholesterol reducing supplements.

Exercise is a great way to lower bad cholesterol and increase the good ones. Aerobics, brisk walking and Yoga have proven several benefits. You should include in your daily diet nuts, oats, wholegrain food, and low fat butter and margarine products and of course, 8 or more glasses of water per day. You diet should be low in fat but high in vitamins and minerals.
