Many new studies are starting to show how turmeric for diabetes prevention may be a possibility. It is still too early to say just how effective it will be, but the results are very exciting.

A study in 2008 by Dr. Drew Tortoriello of Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center at Columbia University Medical Center has found that mice treated with turmeric were less susceptible to developing type 2 diabetes. So how does turmeric for diabetes prevention work?

The main ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substance, and it was found that this can lessen insulin resistance and help prevent type 2 by dampening the inflammatory response provoked by obesity.

This super herb is also responsible for many other health benefits including helping to fight cancer and leukemia in all stages, lowering of the bad (LDL) cholesterol, helping to reduce the effects of Alzheimer's as well as more minor ailments.

There are also many other nutrients that have been proven to help with type 2 diabetes like resveratrol, found in grapes and red wine to some extent, so not only turmeric for diabetes prevention can be used but a combination instead.

Experts agree that the most effective way to take turmeric is in the form of a multi health supplement.

For example, turmeric combines well with piperine, from black pepper, and can increase its absorption by up to 2000%, making the need for large doses unnecessary.

When these ingredients are put together they create synergy, which means you get the direct benefits of each nutrient and the benefits from their interaction with each other.

Make sure the supplement has an enteric coating, so it can deliver the most benefits and contains at least 95% curcumin extract.

This means as well as potentially helping to prevent diabetes, you will get a whole range of health benefits, some of which you will notice quickly, like a sharper memory and improved vision and energy.

Some will be more noticeable further down the line when you are not getting many of the ailments and diseases that your peers get, and have a younger, more youthful appearance.

So it appears that this is just the beginning for turmeric for diabetes prevention, but as we already know the many benefits, why wait!
