There are many different physical and emotional reasons why a person might have trouble sleeping at night. The important thing to realize is when it is, and is not normal. For example, it is normal to not be able to sleep at night when a person is nervous or excited about something that is going to be happening the next day. It is not normal, however, for a person to go days at a time without getting the requisite eight hours of sleep a night.So, in order to diagnose what the sleeping problem might be, the person might need to participate in a sleep study at a sleep center. A sleep center, usually part of a larger medical facility, is a controlled setting in which the sleeping patterns (or lack thereof) of a person are studied for an average of twelve hours.The sleep center assigns patients their own rooms and private bathrooms. The rooms consist of a bed, and usually a television. Although the bed will have a pillow and blanket, patients are encouraged to bring additional pillows and blankets for their own comfort. The patient is also allowed to wear their own pajamas while at the sleep center, provided that the pajamas are loose enough to comfortably accommodate the electrodes that will be attached to the patient. Shaving cream, toothpaste, and toothbrushes are all common things that people use as part of their morning or nightly ritual, and to be as true to their regular schedule, those things should be brought also. |
