How to Really Have a Good Night's Sleep, Part Two

Snoring, like all other sounds, is caused by vibrations that cause particles in the air to form sound waves. For example, when we speak, our vocal cords vibrate to form our voice. As everyone is unique, the sound coming out may be loud or soft, high or low pitched.

While we are asleep, turbulent airflow can cause the tissues of the nose and throat to vibrate and give rise to snoring. Some circumstances increase the chances for this vibration to occur (such as sleeping on your back). The turbulence is caused by a partial blockage that may be located anywhere from the tip of the nose to the vocal chords. The restriction usually occurs only during sleep. However, it may persist all the time and become much worse when we are sleeping. This is because our muscle tone is reduced while we are sleeping and there may be insufficient muscle tone which causes the airways to become "weak". This causes the airway tissue to easily vibrate and cause snoring.

Snoring is caused by a physical abnormality that needs to be identified before a cure can be found. This is not as difficult as it seems and the good news is there is a cure for everybody, depending on your physical traits and lifestyle. Finding the cause is the key to finding a solution. In most instances snoring can be controlled by simple self-help remedies.

Most snorers try all kinds of methods to stop snoring but end up with the same dismal results. They are often lured into buying products that do not address the specific problems; hence, they give up eventually and continue leading their poor quality of life. The diagnostic tests provided on in my other articles have been specially designed to help you find the cause of your snoring. By performing each test and by a process of elimination you will identify the cause or causes in your individual case so you can work on those areas of concern.
