You are watching the comics’ section of the newspaper letting of a stifled yawn. Though you hate comics, there is no alternative there are some other sections of the newspaper that you have not completed as yet, but none of them holds your interest. For the past hour you have been reading the newspaper in the hope that it will make you tired and force you to sleep, but that is not happening. Yes, there is no doubt that you are tired and that your body wants to sleep. The yawns that you are taking ever so frequently are a pointer to that, but why are you not falling asleep?

You are suffering for sleeplessness for the past few weeks and on a friend’s advice you have started reading the papers. Instead of consulting the physician that would have been the correct approach, you have consulted someone who does not have inkling about insomnia. Well you might as well go through a couple of newspapers, but the end result will be the same. You will keep on yawning, reading the same sections of the paper again and again, but sleep will elude you. You are not addressing the problems correctly. As long as your brain is active, it will not allow the nerves to relax and as long as the nerves do not relax, you shall not be able to sleep.

Tossing yourself from one end of the bed to another without reading a newspaper is a far better idea. At least you are not using one organ of your body, the eyes. Tossing will also help to get your body tired and that might induce sleep. This problem generally occurs due to tension that keeps on pegging away at the back on the subconscious mind, thereby prohibiting your brain from relaxing. There are several means to overcome them including medicines that cause your nerves to relax. However, there are some alternative approaches like music therapy that are known to produce astonishing results. Consult your physician and seek his help.
