SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

Religions all over the world the preaches ideologies, beliefs, traditions to its followers. Most of the time these ideologies appear to be developed by a few people and seem to lacking any Scientific Principles. Because of which it sometimes it may appear innocuous as to why are we expected to act, behave and conduct ourselves in a particular way and follow such beliefs that look like no more than the whims and fancies of a few people. But surprisingly most of these beliefs are strong enough to withstand when put on the anvil of Science. In fact it can be of great fun to put some of this beliefs on the anvil of Science and see if they are strong enough to withstand the hammers of Scientific principles. Let us put on such popular belief that guides us about the orientation of our body while sleeping to the test.

All of us have at some point of time in our lives been told that our feet should be pointing towards North while sleeping and this is often backed by a story related with some gods and seems highly unconvincing. But it may be worthwhile to know that researches have shown that such a practice can be highly beneficial for the Heart and helps blood circulation. This follows from the fact that the Earth as we all know is a Magnet with its magnetic field oriented in North-South direction on the outside and in reverse direction on the inner side. So while we sleep with the feet pointing in North direction we align ourselves with the Earth's magnetic field and this affects the blood circulation in a positive manner, thus reducing the stress on the heart. In fact some researches have shown that the force required by heart will be reduced by 1 Dyne if we are in a properly aligned on the other hand the heart will be required to exert more force of the same amount if we sleep with opposite orientation.

In fact most of the traditions and even out Festivals and the traditions followed in these festivals do have a scientific origin, but it is just that the dust of time has settled over them and there is no doubt in course of unearthing these beliefs science and its principles will be struck at some point.

The fact of the matter remains that Religion and science both give ideologies that have a common destination which is the betterment of its followers its just that the path used by either one of them is different. Religion generally uses the path of Stories and tales, which appear unreal and hence are hard to believe while Science uses a more sought after and a realistic approach. There will always be a similarity between what Religion Preaches and what Science Teaches us and it surely rejuvenates one when such a correlation is established.
