Making Healthy Choices to Maintain Weight Loss Goals

I’m sure that all of us have heard about the benefits of water at one time or another. Yet many of us still reach for that sugary soft drink with our meals. It has been said for the longest time, that our bodies require eight glasses of water per day. Whether that is true or false is difficult to state; however, what is known for sure is that our bodies gain numerous health benefits from the consumption of water. The first reason to drink plenty of water is to maintain a healthy balance of bodily fluids. About 60% of your body is made up of water and your bodily fluids are responsible for maintaining a variety of bodily functions. Some of the functions that bodily fluids aid in include: digestion, circulation, absorption, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature. Therefore, it is important to keep your body hydrated. Water can also help you control your calories and keep your skin looking good. Although water is not an actual weight loss product, it can help you lose weight when you chose to substitute some of your high calorie soft drinks for a bottle of water. Furthermore, foods rich in water, such as watermelon and other fruit and vegetables, help you feel full. When you feel full after consuming a slice of watermelon, you will be less likely to snack on something less healthy. Also water keeps your skin looking good. When your body is dehydrated your skin becomes dry and you may notice an increase in wrinkles. The fourth and final reason why you should be drinking water is to help your kidneys. Your kidneys play a major role in your body as they transport waste products in and out of cells. By drinking plenty of water you help your kidneys perform this task with ease. So the next time you want to reach for that soft drink, think about all of the benefits that a bottle of spring fresh water has to offer.
