When we hear the word summer we often associate it with outdoor barbeques, cocktails by the pool, and lounging out in the sun with friends. However, along with these lazy summer days, people also encounter many unnecessary calories. Summer time does not only mean fun in the sun, it also means fried chicken, ice cream, beer, soda, pina coladas, and a plethora of fat meats. Keeping your waist line small during these moths can be difficult when we are surrounded by mayo loaded salads and creamy frozen desserts. So what are some of the most fattening foods of the summer?

High fat meats are the most common of the summer foods. This particular food group is made popular during these months mostly because of the barbeque parties. Some of the foods to avoid include ribs, hamburgers and steak. Instead try grilling skinless breast of chicken or lean pork tenderloin. Mayo based salads are the other foods to avoid. Instead try making your potato salad with light or fat free mayo. Sweet alcoholic drinks are a quiet calorie boost. These drinks go down so easily that we don’t even realize how many calories we have consumed. One pina colada can have as much as 490 calories. Instead of a calorie loaded alcoholic beverage try small glass of wine.

Other beverages to avoid during the summer include soda, beer, sweet tea, cold coffee, and milkshakes. Milkshakes purchased at a local ice cream shop can have more than 700 calories. But if you simply can’t resist, try choosing a light or a diet version of your favorite refreshment. The same idea goes for frozen treats such as ice cream. Frozen treats are often loaded with calories, so instead chose a sorbet, a sherbet, or a fruit bar. These are just a few tips towards a slimmer waist line during the summer.
