Over the past few decades, the Atkins diet has really hit the world with full force. This phenomenon is based on the Atkins Diet, a book by Dr. Robert C Atkins. It gives the power to eat right, lose weight and keep the weight off for a lifetime of healthy living. The concept for weight loss is that we need to be concerned with the carbohydrates we eat, and not the fat. When you eat too many carbohydrates, your body burns some of those carbs as energy and stores excess as fat. As per Atkins, lots of great things happen when you burn body starts burning fat instead of carbs. When you are on Atkins diet, there will be a little calorie counting, but say good-bye to junk food and processed foods. You will be eating a lots of carbohydrates and food that his high in protein. The theory behind the low car diet found with the Atkins diet is that by reducing the intake of these foods you will enter a phase in your body called ketosis. During ketosis, your body will burn fat in the body for fuel instead of using the foods in your diet, which will in turn stop insulin production, which will in turn prevent more fat from being stored. The plan has four phases and you can start with any of the first three. Atkins can be individualized based on where you are and where you want to go. These 4 phases allow you to easily tailor your program based on your individual goals. In each phase, you will learn to choose the right foods to get you where you want to be. The four main stages of Atkins diet are: Induction Ongoing weight loss Pre maintenance Life time maintenance Induction: During Induction you will loose up to 20 net carbs per day. In this stage of the diet, you will reduce carbs and sugar and increase the activity level. During induction you will eat lean protein such as olive, chicken, green leafy vegetables, eggs Fish and much more. You will be happy. You will say good bye to pastas, sugary baked food. You will also hold yourself from eating fruits and nuts during this induction stage of 2 weeks. Stick to induction for 2 weeks and you will lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks and then go to next phase. Ongoing weight loss: It’s more commonly known as OWL. Induction level gives you guidelines, now you learn to take control. You will start taking healthy nutritious food wider variety of vegetables, nuts and carbohydrates... week by you will add more carbohydrates in your diet. The weight loss in the induction stage is slow, in this stage you tend to loose weight at steady pace at this level. Pre maintenance: The first two phases teach you, now you are the one to lead and take charge. You are almost there; eating the right foods has become your second nature now. During pre maintenance you will keep adding good amount of carbs each week till you reach your equilibrium, though it would take you lots of months to reach the Atkins Carbohydrates Equilibrium. Slower the better as it would tell your body that “it’s completely natural “ Remember the goal is not to just lose weight but to keep it off from now on. Life time maintenance: This is now you, eating the right kind of foods on the earth and being confident. This is the fourth and the last stage of the diet plan. You make a commitment to yourself, to be at the goal weight from now on. Its time to celebrate the sustained energy, the best eating plan which you have mastered, confidence and most of all the way you look in the mirror. You have found your Atkins Carbohydrate Equilibrium (ACE) in the phase 3. In life time maintenance you will stick to this number and remain in that 5 pounds of your goal weight. Many people have called into question the safety of the Atkins diet due to its severe methods, and some say that the plan only makes you bounce back to your original weight as so as you hit the maintenance level.
