Timing : - Embryos are generally transferred back to the woman's uterus at the 2 - 8 cell stage, which occurs 48 - 72 hours after the retrieval.
The Procedure : - When she arrives for the embryo transfer, the patient (and her partner) will return to the Procedure Room. The patient is required to have a mildly full bladder so that her uterus can be visualized by abdominal sonogram during the procedure. She will undress, don an examining smock, assume the usual examining position, and be placed under abdominal sonographic guidance. The physician will then insert a speculum into the vagina and clean the cervix.
